AIA OBTAINS COMMONWEALTH ACCREDITATION
The Association of International Accountants (AIA) was approved as a designated Commonwealth accredited organisation on 30 October 2015.
The Commonwealth is often described as a 'family' of nations and peoples. This is most apparent in the network of more than 80 societies, institutions, associations, organisations and charities that work towards improving people's lives.
Accreditation to the Commonwealth is carried out by the Accreditation Committee, which is formed of a subset of member governments. Accreditation provides formal recognition and demonstrates that the organisation is committed to the Values and Principles of the Commonwealth, as outlined in the Commonwealth Charter, and entails adherence to a set of rights and responsibilities in representing the Commonwealth name and brand.
AIA was founded along Commonwealth lines and its membership profile is still most present in those countries, therefore accreditation by The Commonwealth gives additional recognition and support to AIA’s global membership and also presents further development opportunities. As an Accredited Organisation, AIA will collaborate on relevant projects, share knowledge and engage on topics relating to accountancy, finance and education throughout the Commonwealth.
The application examined AIA’s presence throughout the Commonwealth and looked at how AIA demonstrated its commitment to the fundamental principles to promote democracy and good governance, human rights and the rule of law, gender equality and sustainable economic and social development.
AIA President, Les Bradley, said: “AIA’s high standards of education and training, its rigorous membership requirements and adherence to best practice work alongside the Commonwealth’s objectives and goals and I am delighted that AIA’s application for Commonwealth Accreditation has been approved. We share the Commonwealth’s fundamental principles, which can be seen throughout AIA’s ethos and fundamental framework, and look forward to working together to support those principles throughout AIA’s work and development in those countries.”
